Repairs Done on Water Main Break; Lanes Open For Now

WSSC officials say lanes of Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue will be open for Tuesday morning's commute, then close for paving.

Crews have completed repairs on the 16-inch water main on Colesville Road at Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring and all lanes have been reopened to traffic.

WSSC officials say the lanes will stay open through morning rush hour on Tuesday morning’s rush hour before paving brings one more round of closures.

Paving will begin after morning rush hour on Tuesday and is expected to be finished late in the day.

To complete paving, the right, northbound lane on Colesville Road will be closed along with the right, southbound lane on Georgia Avenue. Road repairs are also needed on the center, northbound lane on Colesville Road. Crews will close that lane for part of the day.

All lanes on Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue are expected to be open in time for rush hour on Wednesday morning.

The 76-year-old water main broke on July 29. A large section of pipe that curved around Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue was replaced. Repairs were also made to several other utilities located in the area of the water main.
