- The Bethesda Literary Festival takes place in downtown this weekend. First up is the adult and high school essay winners at 7 p.m.
- Enjoy the sounds of Mali as Fatoumata Diawara performs at BlackRock in Germantown. at 8 p.m.
- Carousel opened at Olney Theatre earlier this week. Performance at 8 p.m.
- Roseanne Cash performs at the Strathmore Music Center at 8 p.m.
- Round House Theatre in Bethesda presents Uncle Vanya at 8 p.m. Come early and meet director John Vreeke.
- Classical pianist Soheil Nasseri performs at AMP by Strathmore at 8 p.m.
- Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club present the Tito Puente Jr Orchestra at 8 p.m.
- The Rockville Musical Theatre’s production of Next to Normal at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn at 8 p.m.
Saturday, April 18
- The Sugarloaf Craft Festival continues today at the county agricultural center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra presents On Safari for children 6 months to 3 years old at Strathmore at 10 and 11:30 a.m.
- Visit Glen Echo Park’s Art Explorers Family Studio for drop-in parent/child art activities from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- The Countryside Artisans’ Spring Studio tour takes place this weekend. Today studios are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- County paper shredding and recycling event at Redland Middle School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Adventure Theatre-MTC presents The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with performances at 11 a.m., 2 and 4:30 p.m.
- The Bethesda Literary Festival continues with Children’s Story Time at 10 a.m. Many events occur during the day, check the schedule.
- The Puppet Co. presents Jack and the Beanstalk in Glen Echo Park at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
- Black Hill Regional Park’s Visitor Center in Boyds recently earned Green certification. Come celebrate at their Family Festival from noon to 3 p.m.
- Aspen Hill Library is hosting a poetry workshop beginning at 1 p.m. Best for teens and adults.
