Montgomery County Muslim Foundation Holiday Distribution

Montgomery County Muslim Foundation serves 40,000 pounds of food to low-income families in MOCO.

Montgomery County Muslim Foundation (MCMF), Gaithersburg, MD Holiday Drive thru serves 40,000 pounds of food to low-income families in need.
MCMF, a grass-roots nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in Montgomery County, Maryland has since 2008 exclusively pursued humanitarian work in the county fulfilling its mission to assist the needy residents of the county and encourage and promote the resident Muslim community’s involvement in humanitarian work. In particular, since the pandemic, it has been working to address the growing food insecurity in our communities.
On December 13, the MCMF Food Pantry program held its Holiday Drive-Thru Distribution at the MCMF office and distributed 40,000 pounds of food to low-income families in Montgomery County. Over 550 cars lined up in the early hours to receive food baskets. MCMF distributed over 60 lbs. of food to each family serving over 2000 individuals. The food boxes containing rice, pasta, pasta sauces, oil, milk, peanut butter, chicken, and bags of fresh produce stuffed with onions, potatoes, cabbage, and carrots were loaded by volunteers in the trunks of the cars.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, MCMF has distributed over 178,000 lbs. pounds of food to low-income families in Montgomery county. MCMF holiday gift basket program distribution will be held in collaboration with the MOCO holiday basket program on December 18th and will serve Christmas dinners to 175 families.
County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council Vice President Gabe Albornoz, County Council member Sydney Katz, County Council member Evan Glass, Mumin Barre, Member Democratic Central Committee attended the event and all commended the work of MCMF. County Executive issued a proclamation to MCMF for their services to the community. Ms.Aruna Miller, a former member of MD house of delegates, District 15 Montgomery County, and her husband attended the event and helped volunteers load food boxes in the cars. Santa made a surprise appearance and distributed candies to the kids in the cars. Ms. Miller praised the services of MCMF and added that that the event was a “festive uplifting and exhilarating experience
