Senator Ben Cardin to Address Montgomery County Businesses
Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union Hosts Senator Cardin will speak at Special Small Business University Event.

Germantown, MD – On Thursday, January 21, 2016, United States Senator Ben Cardin will meet with Montgomery County business owners to address “Helping Marylanders Build Small Business Success.” In this special event sponsored by Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union Small Business University (MAFCU SBU), Senator Cardin will engage in a conversational presentation with business owners, where attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a direct Question & Answer session with Senator Cardin.
“We are very excited to have Senator Cardin present at MAFCU’s next SBU event,” states MAFCU CEO Andrew Russell. “We feel very strongly about providing our local business community with the most important and up-to-date information to help their businesses flourish. Having Senator Cardin here to give our community a better understanding of how small businesses are affected at the state level is an important piece to our economic landscape, and can be a crucial for a business owner’s success.”
Senator Cardin has represented Maryland’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and served for 17 years on the Ways & Means Committee. From 1967-1986, he was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. During his time as Speaker from 1979-1986, Senator Cardin reformed Maryland’s property tax system, the school financing formula and the ethical standards for elected officials. He has been a national leader on health care, retirement security, the environment and fiscal issues while representing the people of Maryland in the U.S. Senate, and before that in the House of Representatives. He currently serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a senior member of the Environment & Public Works Committee (EPW) and Small Business & Entrepreneurship Committee. Senator Cardin also serves on the Senate Finance Committee (SFC), and promotes policies, legislation and programs focused on helping to grow our state and national economies, create job opportunities, and support small businesses.

As a member of the Small Business Committee, Senator Cardin was responsible for the extension of increased guarantees and reduced fees in the Small Business Administration’s two largest loan programs. Serving as Ranking Member at the start of 2015, he has been working to find better ways to provide access to credit for qualified small businesses, as well as expanding access to contracts for women-owned, minority owned and veteran-owned businesses. He aggressively encourages federal agencies to meet or exceed their modest small business contracting goals.
