Arby's Unveils 'Special' Parking Spot for Patriots Coach Bill Belichick

Patriots coach Bill Belichick appears to be the butt of a VA Arby's manager's practical joke with a parking sign reserved just for him.

In honor of New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins’ joint practice session this week, a Richmond Arby’s has unveiled a special parking spot for Patriots head coach Bill Belichick that satirically refers to him as former head coach of the New York Jets.

The sign pokes fun at Belichick who, in January 2000, took over for Bill Parcels as head coach of the New York Jets. In a surprise announcement the next day, Belichick wrote, “I resign as HC of the NYJ” on a napkin. The sign also includes an image of binoculars, nodding to the ‘Spygate’ controversy in which Belichick and the Patriots were fined for videotaping Jets coaches’ signals during a Sept. 2007 game.

Dean Kovanes, owner of the Arby’s franchise at 2309 W. Broad Street in Richmond, is a longtime sports prankster who has previously made parking lot signs targeting quarterback Robert Griffin III and former“Redskins great” LaVar Arrington.

The Arby’s sits nearly adjacent to the Washington NFL team’s training facility.
