Waltz King Johann Strauss II is also famed for his jaunty polkas, and both forms make appearances as part of the sweeping romantic score for the operetta “The Gypsy Baron (Der Zigeunerbaron)“, sung in English by the talented members of the Victorian Lyric Opera Company. A live orchestra accompanies this semi-staged concert version of the Hungarian-themed romantic comedy, which finds two pairs of couples kept apart by complications including gypsy fortunes, a missing treasure, mistaken identities, and even an impending war with Spain.
