Well-known for their annual “Nutcracker”, the acclaimed Rockville Civic Ballet’s latest production features a duo of dances: Stravinsky’s famed Firebird and an original comic piece called Piano Barre, set to the music of ragtime jazz composer Scott Joplin. The company’s version of the Russian folk tale “The Firebird”, set to Igor Stravinsky’s glorious music, depicts Prince Ivan as a determined hunter, who’s taught to respect the forest by the beautiful Princess Vasalisa and atone for his sins with the help of the majestic and magical Firebird.
