Rockville Native Invited to Olympic Hockey Team Selection Camp
Haley Skarupa is one of 25 American forwards to be considered for the 2014 Winter Olympic team.

A Rockville native may be Olympic Village-bound. Haley Skarupa, 19, was selected to attend the U.S. Women's National Ice Hockey Team Selection Camp, which will be held at Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY, this June.Â
Skarupa, who attends Boston College, is one of 41 women headed to the camp. Twenty-one players will make the official Olympic roster in late December.Â
The Wootton High graduate has been playing on the ice since she was 6 years old, she told Patch last year. Since 2009, Skarupa played with the U.S. Women's National Team, scooping silver and gold medals in 2010 and 2011 at the International Ice Hockey Federation's World Women's U18 Championships.Â

Olympic gold is the ultimate goal for Skarupa, who said that she has her sights set on the Sochi, Russia games in 2014 and the PyeongChang, Korea games in 2018.
"I’m definitely going to go for it," Skarupa said. "That’s been my goal for a long time now."
