Women's fiction FREE, chance to win

"Beachgoers must pick up a copy of this page-turner by Lauren Monroe, who adds true-life elements..." — Ocean City Today

“Lauren Monroe chooses shore and football themes…uplifting messages and bits of humor.” — Cape Gazette in Delaware

Most summer images include reclining by the beach or pool, drink in hand, sunshine staring down from the sky. Many women will tell you their relaxation image includes a new novel.

Lauren Monroe, who began The Maryland Shores women’s fiction series with Letting Go: Book One, released Second Chances: Book Two at the start of this summer. Both books—but more importantly readers—enjoy deep discounts this weekend. Book One is FREE on Kindle Thursday-Friday, July 9-10 while Book Two will be part of a Kindle promotion. Get it Friday at its lowest price all season for 99 cents. The Kindle app is FREE for various tablets and phones.

Discussing the latest novel, “some scenes will make you cry; others will have you laughing out loud,” one reviewer said, “especially the dialogue depicting the Ravens/Steelers football rivalry.” Other readers have heralded the plot where Liz, the heroine is thrust into a divorce and the dating world; and Paul, is forced to endure heartbreaking events that start the book.

Said a third fan, hooked on the series, “It’s got family drama, a love story, parenting problems, but my personal favorite was the accurate depiction of Italian-American family life and the essence of many fun places.”

Monroe, who has been around boats and nautical scenery most of her life and currently lives on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, admits her Pittsburgh & Western Maryland heritage inspired her to write about football in a very Chesapeake-based book. Yet she has done her research to understand the emotional impact of a city and state in dire need of an NFL team after the beloved Colts were Irsayed—a verb this author has become accustomed to using.

“I respect fan loyalty. It’s fun,” Monroe adds. “The heroes in this series love their football so there is just a hint of trash talk or razzing as guys do, but I think women who root for their Ravens will love Liz as a diehard fan and a hard-working single mom trying to keep her two children as well as herself centered through everyday hassles and historic weather events in 2003.” That she falls for a guy waving a Terrible Towel, might rivet Maryland readers, Monroe says with a laugh.

Letting Go: Book One of The Maryland Shores was set one year after 9/11 during the sniper terror in Maryland and DC. Most of that book took place on the Western Shore just south of Annapolis where Monroe created a fictional world around the West River and a hospital, home to McDreamy-type surgeons and their medical drama. Second Chances: Book Two of The Maryland Shores takes place on the Eastern Shore as well, ending in Ocean City. The book covers depict the content accurately in each.

Both novels are available in paperback at Amazon.com, but this week’s special promotion puts them at bargain prices on Kindle Thursday through Sunday, July 9-12th. And those who read and write a helpful review may enter themselves into a Chesapeake Reading & Gift Basket giveaway filled with Maryland items as well books to keep or give to friends.
