Anne Arundel Firefighter Injured; Roof Collapses In Blaze: Report
A blaze at an Odenton motel injured an Anne Arundel County firefighter when the roof collapsed beneath him, officials said.

ODENTON, MD — Officials said an Anne Arundel County firefighter was injured battling a blaze Monday evening at the Odenton Motel 6. The first responder was on top of the building ventilating the structure when the roof collapsed, an incident report noted. The write-up added that the crew member, who works for the Severn Fire Station, then fell about 15 feet.
Medics took him to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center for treatment, fire officials wrote. The press release explained that he was discharged soon after.
Fire officials estimated that the blaze caused $25,oo0 in damage. Investigators think the fire was accidental. They alleged that smoke detectors were "present but did not alert occupants."

The flames started in and were contained to a vacant building that used to house the motel pool, the department clarified. The one-story structure is now only used for storage and does not contain any living spaces, an agency spokesperson specified.
First responders reported seeing smoke coming from the roof of the building, located at 1630 Annapolis Road, when they arrived around 5:58 p.m. A team of 52 firefighters indicated that they extinguished most of the flames within 10 minutes and controlled the blaze within another 15 minutes. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department mentioned that crews from these stations assisted its response:
