Anne Arundel County Under Severe Thunderstorm Warning (UPDATE)
'Supercell thunderstorm' is capable of large hail, damaging winds, National Weather Service advises.

UPDATE (3:20 p.m.)—The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Baltimore, Harford and Anne Arundel counties after detecting a storm near Fort Smallwood Park at 3:15 p.m. that was moving east at 20 mph. It is traveling over the water, according to WNEW.
The warning is in effect until 4 p.m. The storm is capable of producing half dollar-sized hail and 60 mph winds, according to the weather service, which reports the following:
* LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... FORT SMALLWOOD STATE PARK...BACK RIVER...SPARROWS POINT...NORTH POINT STATE PARK...MILLERS ISLAND...BODKIN POINT...ESSEX...BOWLEYS QUARTERS...WHITE MARSH...ROSSVILLE...EDGEMERE...GUNPOWDER...FORT HOWARD...CHASE...NOTTINGHAM AND MARTIN STATE AIRPORT.

Instructions: SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. FOR YOUR PROTECTION...MOVE TO AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS. HEAVY RAINS FLOOD ROADS QUICKLY SO DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.
THIS IS A SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORM. DUE TO THE ROTATING NATURE OF THESE STORMS...THEY ARE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING ALL TYPES OF SEVERE WEATHER... INCLUDING EXTREMELY LARGE HAIL...DESTRUCTIVE STRAIGHT LINE WINDS... AND POSSIBLY TORNADOES. MOVE QUICKLY TO A SAFE SHELTER...PREFERABLY INTO A BASEMENT...OR AN INTERIOR ROOM SUCH AS A BATHROOM OR CLOSET.

In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for several parts of Maryland, including Anne Arundel County.
The watch period last until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, according to the National Weather Service.
During that time, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated, with damaging winds and large hail possible, the weather service reports.
The following areas are included in the watch: Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties well as Baltimore City.
