BWI Airport To Receive Funding From CARES Act
Eighteen of Maryland state's airports will receive a total of $107,731,471 through the CARES Act. Nationwide, airports will receive $10B.
HANOVER, MD — Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is among Maryland's airports to receive more than $100 million in funding as part of the CARES Act being distributed during the new coronavirus pandemic. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao announced that 18 of the state’s airports will receive a total of $107,731,471. Nationwide, airports will receive $10 billion as part of the $2 trillion CARES Act, also known as the coronavirus stimulus program.
“This $10 billion in emergency resources will help fund the continued operations of our nation’s airports during this crisis and save workers’ jobs,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

Since the governor’s executive stay-at-home order was issued almost a month ago, the TSA says passengers are down more than 90 percent, reports WJZ. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport typically sees 50,000 to 60,000 passengers per day. Approximately 80 of the airport's businesses are closed.
