Coronavirus Closes Archbishop Spalding High School In Severn

The school will be closed through Monday as officials wait for a community member's coronavirus test result, according to a school letter.

SEVERN, MD — Archbishop Spalding High School will be closed Thursday, Friday and Monday while waiting to hear about a community member's coronavirus test results. In an email sent to parents by school officials, it stated that a person was tested after experiencing symptoms related to the illness. The email did not specify whether the person was a student, staff member of part of the faculty. However, school officials did ask people to refrain from discussing the matter on social media.

"We ask that you and your children refrain from speculating about the identity of the individual involved, especially on social media,” school president Kathleen Mahar and principal Amy Cannon wrote in the email.

If school officials learn that the test results are positive, the school will work with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health to map out the next steps and respond accordingly, according to the email. The school is ready to conduct classes remotely, administrators shared in the note.

The school also canceled all out-of-state and international school trips indefinitely.
