How Will County Councilman Proceed After Coronavirus Diagnosis?

An Anne Arundel County Councilman says he has coronavirus. How is his health? How will this affect his duties? Patch has the full update.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Anne Arundel County Councilman Andrew Pruski says he tested positive for coronavirus. Pruski represents District 4, which encompasses Odenton, Severn and Fort Meade. The councilman says he got his positive test result over the weekend.

"Leading up to the test I was generally asymptomatic and was not feeling key symptoms," Pruski said in a press release. "I am thankful that I chose to take a test out of the abundance of caution, so that I could protect myself, my family, and others."

After testing positive, Pruski says he immediately self-quarantined from his family and the public. He will remain in quarantine for two weeks, aligning with the Department of Health's regulation.

Pruski's family is also isolating in a separate location. Their test results are pending, Pruski says.

"During the quarantine, I respectfully ask for people to respect the privacy of me and my family," Pruski said. "Thank you to everyone who has already showed support for me and my family. We will remain positive and work to continue to get through this pandemic."

The councilman says he is feeling well and expects to make a full recovery. Pruski added that he will continue his legislative duties.

The council has convened virtually since Maryland's coronavirus outbreak worsened in March. This will allow Pruski to continue his work without infecting fellow council members or potential audience members.

The group has a public work session Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The next full county council meeting is next Monday, Sept. 21 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. A full schedule and details on how to watch, listen and submit testimony is posted at this link.

Pruski encourages anybody who is not feeling well to get tested. Information about free coronavirus testing in Anne Arundel County is available here.
