Department of Defense Grants Funds to 8 Anne Arundel County Schools

The $2.25 million in grants will support STEM education.

Odenton-Severn area schools are among those receiving Department of Defense grants, Anne Arundel County Public Schools officials announced Monday.

The $2.25 million in Department of Defense Educational Assistance grants will be distributed to science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs at eight county schools with a high number of military-linked families.

The schools include Meade High School, MacArthur Middle School, West Meade Early Education Center and Annapolis, Pershing Hill, Manor View, Meade Heights and West Annapolis elementary schools. Anne Arundel County is one of only 15 school districts in the country to receive the federal grants, according to officials.

An additional $300,000 was given to the school system's stream restoration projects, according to the release.

“This amazing opportunity helps to emphasize our commitment to ensuring that our Programs of Choice really provide exponential opportunities for our students to be exposed to, experience, and excel at STEM,” said Maureen McMahon, AACPS’ Assistant Superintendent for Advanced Studies and Programs.
