ANNAPOLIS JUNCTION, MD — The U.S. Park Police are investigating a fatal accident Sunday night in which a car veered off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Route 295) and struck a tree, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. The collision caused "extreme damage to the vehicle," and the firefighters determined that the driver was dead, the fire department said.

The newspaper reported that an agency spokesman was unavailable to comment on the accident due to the federal government's partial shutdown. Many U.S. agencies have ceased all but vital operations due to the budget standoff between President Trump and Congress over funding for a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.
