3 Displaced, Firefighter Hurt In Severn Blaze: Officials

A Severn blaze displaced three residents and injured a firefighter, officials said.

SEVERN, MD — Officials said a Severn fire displaced three adult residents last Wednesday. The American Red Cross is helping two of them with housing, an incident report noted.

The fire department informed that a crew member also hurt their back while battling the blaze. Medics took the injured firefighter to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center for minor treatment, the report continued.

Investigators think "improperly discarded smoking materials" caused the accidental fire that started in the bedroom. The write-up indicated that the flames broke out around 5:15 p.m. in the 8200 block of Autumn Lake Court. The press release added that the smoke alarms sounded, helping the occupants escape before crews responded to multiple 911 calls about the blaze.
