Head-On Crash in Odenton Seriously Injures Two, Requires Emergency Medevac

One woman was airlifted by helicopter and another rushed by ambulance, significantly snarling Monday morning rush-hour traffic.

A serious crash in Odenton Monday morning required one woman to be airlifted and another rushed away in an ambulance, both with serious injuries, after being trapped in their vehicle.

According to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department (AACOFD), firefighters responded just before 7 a.m. Monday to the area of Piney Orchard Parkway and Sandy Walk Way in Odenton after receiving a report of a serious crash with people still trapped in their vehicles.

AACOFD firefighters arrived to the scene of the crash to and found a two-vehicle accident with both vehicles off the roadway, and two patients trapped in one of the vehicles. It was reported that the crash was head-on.

AACOFD said on their Facebook page that it took responders 20 minutes to rescue one of the victims, a 20-year-old female, from her vehicle. She was taken in an ambulance to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The driver of the first vehicle, a 50-year-old female, was rescued within about 10 minutes. She was taken in a Maryland State Police helicopter to a Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries, but her injuries were also not believed to be life-threatening.

The adult female driver of the second vehicle was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center with only minor injuries.

Traffic in the area of the crash experienced significant delays, and emergency alerts warned drivers to steer clear of the area for several hours Monday morning.
