New Grocery Store Comes To Severn, Plans Grand Opening

SEVERN, MD — Severn is getting a new budget grocery store. German grocer ALDI will open its doors next Thursday. The store is located near Interstate 97 at 7858 Quarterfield Road.

"We are dedicated to providing the communities we serve the best groceries at the lowest-possible prices," Jeff Baehr, Frederick division vice president, said in a press release. "We look forward to introducing Severn to their new neighborhood grocery store."

The Severn location is one of many additions coming over the next two years. ALDI said it plans to become the third largest grocer in the U.S. by the end of 2022. The chain currently has more than 2,000 stores spread across 37 states.

"We are focused on continuing to expand and open new stores across the country because we want to do our part," Baehr said. "We know now, more than ever, easy access to fresh food and household essentials is invaluable."

Aldi partners with Feeding America, a nationwide organization that fights hunger. The grocer said it donates 30 million pounds of food to the group each year.

Maryland's newest store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aldi is still hiring associates, cashiers and stockers. The starting pay is $14 per hour.
