Odenton Student Makes Movie, Debuts It At College Film Showcase

An Anne Arundel County college student made his own movie. He premiered the film at his senior cinema showcase.

WESTMINSTER, MD — Odenton student Jose Osorio made an original movie. He premiered the film at the McDaniel Cinema Showcase on May 6. The fictitious movie, entitled "Wingman," is about the social life of a young computer programmer.

The film was part of Osorio's final project at McDaniel College. The senior cinema major wrote, directed, produced and edited the entire piece. Osorio explained that he was inspired by a friend's experience with dating apps.

"The goal of the film was to appeal to the audiences that use dating apps like Tinder and Hinge to seek validation and reassure them that there is nothing wrong with online dating," Osorio, who minors in communication and Spanish, said in a press release. "The problems come when someone becomes obsessed with these platforms and [needs] to use them for a constant feeling of being needed and appreciated."
