Officer Hit By Car While Parked On Anne Arundel Highway: Police

Police said somebody hit an officer parked along Baltimore-Washington Parkway. The crash hospitalized two people, troopers added.

ANNAPOLIS JUNCTION, MD — Police said a car hit a trooper parked along Maryland Route 295 early Saturday morning. The accident near Annapolis Junction hospitalized the officer and the driver, an incident report noted.

The Maryland State Police indicated that an ambulance drove the injured trooper to Baltimore's R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. The write-up added that medics took the oncoming motorist, who drove a Toyota RAV4, to MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore.

The press release advised that the officer was sitting in their marked patrol car, blocking a closed exit ramp around 3:30 a.m. The motorist drove through traffic cones and highway signs before hitting the trooper, police informed. Officers explained that the collision knocked the patrol car into the southbound travel lanes of Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

Charges are pending against the unidentified driver, police mentioned.

Troopers reminded Marylanders to follow the state's move-over law. This requires cars to move at least on-lane over from stopped emergency vehicles. If it is not safe to do so, motorists should reduce their speed to safely pass the scene.
