Firefighters called a second alarm to help get the fire under control due to Saturday's extreme heat.

UPDATE (10:50 a.m. Sunday)—A fire left two townhouses damaged Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire was ruled accidental due to an unattended grill left on the back deck, said fire spokesman Lt. Cliff Kooser.

Anne Arundel County firefighters responded to a townhouse in the 1300 block of Hill Born Drive in Hanover at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday for a reported dwelling fire, Kooser said.

The townhouse where the fire began received about $50,000 worth of damage and the adjacent townhouse had $25,000 worth of damage, Kooser said.

Firefighters had the fire "stopped" as of 6:15 p.m., but they called a second alarm to help get the blaze completely under control due to the extremely high temperatures, Kooser said.
