Severn Crash Kills 2, Hospitalizes 2, Sparks Car Fire: Police

A Severn crash killed two people and hospitalized another pair, police said. The head-on collision sparked a car fire, officers added.

SEVERN, MD — A Severn crash killed two people Sunday and sent another pair to the hospital, police said. Officers identified the deceased victims as 46-year-olds David Blaine Wolcott and Heather Lyn Wolcott of Severn. The injured duo included a man and a woman from a neighboring town, authorities clarified.

The crash happened around 1:52 p.m. near the intersection of Telegraph Road and Buckingham Place, an incident report noted. The write-up added that David Blaine Wolcott was driving Heather Lyn Wolcott in a 2003 Honda S2000. The Honda was heading south on Telegraph Road when the driver lost control for an unknown reason and crossed into the northbound lane, the press release continued.

Police explained that the Honda then collided with an oncoming 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. The accident sparked a fire that engulfed the entire Chevrolet, officers detailed.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department pronounced the Honda occupants dead on the scene, the report informed. Officials took their bodies to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy in Baltimore, the write-up shared.

Medics took the seriously injured driver of the Chevrolet to the Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, the release indicated. The passenger also sustained serious injuries and went to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police stated.

Officers think the Honda's failure to stay in its lane caused the crash. Authorities mentioned that they are awaiting the results of a toxicology test for drugs and/or alcohol. The Anne Arundel County Police Department wrote that its Traffic Safety Section is still investigating the accident.
