Teen Brothers Help Feed Families Memorial Day Weekend
Two organizations and AACPS teamed up to hand out 450 meal packs to families from Jessup Elementary Memorial Day Weekend.
JESSUP, MD — Brothers Caleb and Joshua Oh were worried about kids in Maryland finding themselves hungry and without food during the Memorial Day Weekend. The coronavirus pandemic has left some families without the means to obtain steady nourishment, so the pair stepped in to make a difference.
The Oh brothers are directors of Kid Changemakers, a nonprofit run by kids to serve kids. They were contacted by Helping Hands of America and teamed up with the organization and Anne Arundel County Public Schools Office to team up and hand out 450 meal packs to families from Jessup Elementary Saturday afternoon. Jessup Elementary is the first AACPS recipient of the National Blessings Backpack program sponsored by Helping Hands of America.
"They asked us to be involved because we have partnered on many events that involve AACPS in the past with them like school supply drives, toy drives, coat drives, etc. They thought it was important for us, as students from AACPS and a partner non-profit, to help," Caleb Oh told Patch.

Caleb, a ninth grader at South River High School, and Joshua, a sixth grader at Crofton Middle School, told Patch that they were grateful for being invited to assist in such a valuable project.
“We want to thank Helping Hands and AACPS for including us today and believing in our mission of kids serving kids," Caleb said.

“Today was amazing because we brought smiles to so many kids. It was so nice to see so many families and to know we helped in a small way during these hard times," added Joshua.
