He is serving nine months at the Ordnance Road Correctional Center in Glen Burnie on second-degree assault charges, according to online court documents.
Simms had been in custody since May and was scheduled to be discharged in January or February 2011, according to Terry Kokolis, superintendent of Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities.
"Of course that date will change once he's apprehended," he said.
Simms was on work detail from the Ordnance Road Correctional Center working at the Glen Burnie Convenience Center on Dover Road, Kokolis said.
Kokolis said he didn't know what type of additional sentence Simms would receive once caught.
"He didn't escape from security. It was a 'walk-off' so the judge has [leeway] in his sentence," he said. "He's a local resident of Anne Arundel County so hopefully we won't go far."
This is not the first time Simms, who has addresses listed in Severn, Odenton and Annapolis in court documents, has been in trouble with the law. He's previously been arrested for drug and gun charges.
As of 1:30 p.m., Simms still had not been located, Kokolis said.
