2 Owings Mills Students Named 2020 Carson Scholars
The Owings Mills students will receive scholarships for their academic and humanitarian work.
OWINGS MILLS, MD — Two Owings Mills students received the honor of being named 2020 Carson Scholars. The scholarship program recognizes students who have a track record of academic excellence and participation in community service.
Students in 4th through 11th grades were eligible for the honor, and they had to be nominated by a current educator.
Only one student from each school could be nominated.

Carson Scholars receive a $1,000 college scholarship award, an Olympic-sized medal and a trophy for their school.
Carson Scholars must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 and display humanitarian qualities through community service.

Recognized Carson Scholars have renewed their Carson Scholar status by maintaining high academic standards and a strong commitment to their communities.
Here are the recognized Carson Scholars for 2020 from Owings Mills:
- Laya Neelakandan, Grade: 12; McDonogh School
- Marcus Seay, Grade: 9; New Town High School
Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and humanitarian qualities without regard to financial need, ethnicity, creed or religion.
