2013 Rewind: Development in Reisterstown and Owings Mills

Development is a hot topic in the Owings Mills/Reisterstown area and there's been plenty of it to discuss. Here are development projects that made the news in 2013.

Foundry Row
The Solo Cup Company is being demolished to make way for Foundry Row at 10100 Reisterstown Rd. in Owings Mills. Foundry Row is a 365,000 square foot, $140 million project that will be home to a new Wegmans. A group tried to block the development's progress with a referendum which was tossed out by a Baltimore County judge in early December. 

Detailed engineering and architectural plans are scheduled to be submitted in early 2014 and construction could begin as early as summer. 

Metro Center at Owings Mills
Some elements of the Metro Center at Owings Mills, a transit-centered community, opened in 2013. Baltimore County's largest library brach opened at Metro Center in March, the Community College of Baltimore County center held its first classes in July and people started moving into Metro Crossing condos this fall. 

When the project is complete, it will include office space, retail and restaurants, residential units and a hotel. 

Delight Quarry
Reisterstown-based Gaines and Company is the utility contractor for this mixed use development being built in an area bounded by Berrymans Lane, Franklin Boulevard, Red Run Boulevard and Nicodemus Road in Reisterstown. The  residential area of the project will encompass 67 townhouses and 75 single family houses, according to Gaines and Company. 

According to earlier reports, Delight Quarry will also offer 150 elderly housing units, an office/retail “village center” and a recreation area. 

Ballard Green
Beazer Homes USA Inc., based in Atlanta, reported in September that it plans to open a new residential community in Owings Mills. The Ballard Green project includes the building of more than 500 townhomes and condominium units, located 1.5 miles from I-795. Sales are expected to start in the spring of 2014.

Owings Mills Mall
Kimco officials have been quiet since Foundry Row got its rezoning. Kimco and Owings Mills representatives did not return calls to Patch for comment by the time this article was posted. Patch will continue to update this story in early 2014.
