After Boys Lose Parents, Family Sets Up Online Fundraiser

Do you want to help the Maryland boys who lost their parents this week in a suspected murder-suicide? There is a way to donate.

Three boys who lost both their parents in a tragic sequence of events this week are going to need support. To help, their uncle has set up an online donation page.

"In the wake of one of the hardest things I...have had to face in my life as a brother, an uncle and as a friend," Jonathan Rey wrote, "I have to remember that this tragedy didn't just happen to me but many many other people, both family and friends. Most of all, even if they don't understand it yet, my 3 beautiful, smart and innocent nephews Avery, Jordan and Tristan Rey."

The three boys reportedly saw their father kill their mother Wednesday before he dropped them off near a shopping mall, then drove several miles away and fatally shot himself.

The 6-year-old and 7-year-old twins were uninjured, police said, and are now in the care of relatives.

The children said they witnessed their father shoot their mother before he made them get out of his truck with a note containing contact information for their other relatives, according to WJZ.

Karen Palmer, who had been at the Arundel Mills Red Lobster for a birthday celebration Wednesday, told the news station that a frantic Harry Rey pulled up in his pickup truck and said: "Do me a favor and take these kids....I am serious...call 911."

Police said the call came before 6 p.m. Wednesday, and officers from two counties started to piece together what they suspect was a murder-suicide.

Harry Anthony Rey, 35, is believed to have shot his wife — Amber Lynne Cox, 28 — at their home in the 10600 block of Davis Avenue in the Woodstock area, police said.

Cox was found dead inside the Woodstock residence with at least one gunshot wound, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.

Officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department found Harry Rey inside his truck with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the 7600 block of Sandy Farm Road in Severn, a few miles from the mall.

Harry Rey was a loving father and stay-at home dad who had been having marital problems recently, a neighbor told WJZ.

Officers were called to the Woodstock home at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the day prior to the shootings, because the couple had been arguing about their relationship, according to The Baltimore Sun. Police returned three hours later when Harry Rey knocked on a neighbor's door stating there was a "'conspiracy against him'" and he was afraid for his life, based on a police report obtained by the newspaper.

The children are reportedly staying with their maternal grandmother, Barbara Cox, who lives in Crownsville. She described Amber Cox as "a terrific mom" who "loved those boys with her heart and soul," according to The Baltimore Sun.

Donations received through the GoFundMe page will go toward the boys' care and education, according to Jonathan Rey.

"...both Rey and Cox families will always make sure they have the best possible future and opportunities to cope with this tragedy," Jonathan Rey wrote on the GoFundMe page, which was created on Saturday. "Two families are coming together to make sure these kids, my nephews, have the best support and opportunities possible for their future."
