Sacred Heart Celebrates Catholic Schools Week

Sacred Heart Glyndon will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week, January 28 through February 1, 2013. Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. During the week, we focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation. We build community awareness of and involvement in Catholic schools throughout the country. Also, we honor those who contribute to the success of our schools—students, families, faculty and staff, volunteers, community supporters and local and national leaders.

In addition to the academic achievements our students reach, community outreach is a top priority. Within the last year, Sacred Heart School’s students have made cards for the homebound, and for servicemen and women overseas, 2639 meatless sandwiches for the homeless at Our Daily Bread, collected a staggering $2,403 for the food pantry at the Reisterstown Community Crisis Center, donated 250 lbs of candy, and raised more than $1,500 for The American Red Cross’ efforts after Hurricane Sandy. With their families, our students have donated 198 coats, 129 sweaters, and 36 blankets for the needy at our sister Parish St. Ann, not to mention an abundance hats, mittens, and school supplies. Our families generously adopted nine families this Christmas, showering them with toys for the children, as well as needed supplies for the adults such as household items, clothes, linens, and toiletries. In addition to the new items purchased for these families, Sacred Heart families are the largest contributors to the Sykes Toy Project. Above all else, our children give their most precious resource to their community; they give a tremendous amount of time.

The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2013 is “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards.” Catholic schools are noted for their academic excellence and high moral standards. The students at Sacred Heart Glyndon are shining examples of young people being challenged by high standards, and making a difference in the community. Please join us for an Open House, Monday February 4, 9 a.m. -11a.m. to see the outstanding academic and faith-based environment in which our children thrive.
