Baltimore County Storm Leads To Road Closures

Fallen trees and downed wires were reported in parts of Baltimore County during Monday night's thunderstorm, county officials said.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Trees and wires fell in parts of Baltimore County Monday night, according to emergency management officials.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued after 6 p.m. due to storms packing 60 mph winds.

However, the severe weather moved out of the area after 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, which said the warning expired at 7:15 p.m. for parts of Baltimore, Anne Arundel and Harford counties and Baltimore City.

Several roads in Baltimore County were affected by the storms even after the storms had passed.

These roads were closed because of downed trees, Baltimore County emergency management reported before 7 p.m. Monday:

  • Pikesville: Greenspring Avenue at Green Summit Road
  • Pikesville: 1700 Woodholme Avenue
  • Randallstown: Church Lane at Elmcroft Road
  • Towson: Stevenson Lane at Mitten Lane

Bellona Avenue was also closed at Dunlora Road, state officials reported after 7 p.m.

To report trees in Baltimore County roads, people should call 410-887-3560.

Trees were not the only thing falling during the severe thunderstorm warning period.

"Wind has caused a few downed wires to fall into roadways," emergency management personnel reported before 6:30 p.m.

As a result, people were advised to avoid Wilkens Avenue at Kenwood Avenue, which was closed so that crews could tend to the wires.
