OWINGS MILLS, MD — Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday, meaning local government and other services will take a break mid week. It's a given that many services are closed on Christmas Day, but others will be closed Christmas Eve and surrounding days as well.

We've rounded up the closings and schedule changes to know around Owings Mills. Schools are closed for an extended winter break, while other services will run on half-day schedules on Christmas Eve.

Baltimore County Government: Offices are open Christmas Eve, but are closed Christmas Day.

Baltimore County Health Department: Closed Dec. 25.

Baltimore County Courts: All county courts are closed Christmas Day.

Maryland State Courts: All state courts are closed Dec. 25.

Post Offices: Closed Dec. 25. No mail will be delivered.

Baltimore County Public Schools: Closed Dec. 21-Jan. 1 for winter break.

Baltimore County Library: All locations are closed Dec. 24-25.

CountyRide: No services Christmas Day.

MTA: On Dec. 25, Light RailLink, Local & CityLink and Metro Subway will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule. Regular operating hours will resume Thursday.

Parking: Metered parking is free Dec. 24-25.

Senior Centers: Open Christmas Eve, closed Christmas Day.

Trash/Recycling: There will be no pickup Christmas Day. The impact of holidays varies among Baltimore County collection schedules. See your schedule. If you contract with private provider, confirm schedule changes with the provider.

Landfills/Recycling Centers: Trash and recycling drop-off facilities, including the Eastern Sanitary Landfill in White Marsh, will be closed Christmas Day. All three drop-off facilities are open regular operating hours Christmas Eve.

Banks: Closed Dec. 25. Some may close early Christmas Eve, so confirm hours with your bank.

Movie Theaters: Most area movie theaters will be open Christmas Day. We would encourage calling your theater of choice to confirm hours.

Grocery Stores: Area grocery stores hours are as follows —

  • Giant Foods: Owings Mills area stores will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Select stores will be open on Christmas Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., check the local store's website. Owings Mills area pharmacies will be closed.
  • Wegmans Food Markets: Stores will close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24; closed on Dec. 25; will reopen at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26.
  • Weis Markets: All stores will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All pharmacies in Maryland and Virginia will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores and pharmacies are closed on Christmas Day.
  • Safeway: Hours: 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Day.
  • Food Lion: All stores are open until 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.
  • Aldi: Christmas Eve: All stores will open with limited hours (use the store locator for hours at your location). Christmas Day: Closed
  • Trader Joe's: Christmas Eve: All stores close at 6 p.m. Christmas Day: Closed.
  • Walmart: Hours: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.
  • Target: Christmas Eve: Stores open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Christmas Day: Closed
