Community Continues Tributes to Gene Kirchner

Local residents are raising funds in memory of the Reisterstown Volunteer Firefighters, who died May 2 after being seriously injured in a fire.

The Owings Mills-Reisterstown community continues to pay tribute to Gene Kirchner, 25, the firefighter who died May 2 after being seriously injured on April 24.

The fire also claimed the life of resident .

Owings Mills High School, where Kirchner graduated in 2006, started a scholarship in his memory. Donations can be sent to Owings Mills High School, 124 Tollgate Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117.

Megan Cook, a Reisterstown native who makes lockets, is hosting a raffle to benefit the OMHS scholarship. Raffle tickets are $5, or buy two get one free. Cook will be donating 15 percent of all sales to the scholarship. For more details, visit the Facebook event.

Bill Bateman’s in Reisterstown will host a guest bartender contest for firefighters on May 17 from 9 p.m. until close to benefit Kirchner’s family. 15 percent of everyone’s check will be donated. There will also be a silent auction and a $500 cash prize for the bartender that brings in the most sales. Bartending spots are still available. Interested bartenders are asked to call 410-526-6200.
