1 Dead, 1 Injured In Crash That Closed I-695: Police

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A man died and a woman was hospitalized after a crash on Interstate 695 Thursday, according to Maryland State Police. The outer loop was closed for about three hours for the response, police said, while traffic was detoured onto I-795 north.

Rodney Shears, 49, of Jefferson County, West Virginia, was standing behind a Chevrolet Cobalt on the shoulder of I-695 when he was hit and killed before 4 p.m., according to authorities.

Police said a 2016 Infiniti Q70 that had reportedly been driving erratically hit him.

Ronae Lavida Anderson, 39, of Baltimore, was behind the wheel, and authorities said after hitting Shears, she crossed back into the highway and hit a Lexus RX330 on I-695.

Police said Anderson was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment of her injuries, and the driver of the Lexus was unharmed in the crash.

Officials said I-695 reopened by 6:30 p.m.

According to Maryland State Police, no charges have been filed as of Thursday night.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash on the I-695 outer loop past the exit for I-795 around 3:30 p.m., officials said.

A woman in a white SUV was driving erratically, hit and killed a man standing outside an orange Chevrolet Cavalier, then hit a Lexus SUV, WJZ reported.
