Final Phase of Dolfield Boulevard Opens

The final half-mile of Dolfield Boulevard, a major route now connecting Reisterstown Road to Lakeside Boulevard in Owings Mills, is now open to traffic.  

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz joined community and business leaders in celebrating the completion of construction on the final phase of the Boulevard this week. Dolfield Boulevard runs from Interstate-795 to Reisterstown Road, the project began in July of 2012 and was finished almost a year ahead of schedule, according to a county news release.

The new, four-lane, divided highway, which includes sidewalks, will not only serve as an important connector to the Owings Mills Growth Area but it will relieve traffic on many residential streets; enhancing the safety of community streets and improving traffic flow.

"Thanks to this project, not only will Owings Mills be easier to drive through, but now people can commute to work and run errands without creating congestion on their neighbors' streets," said Kamenetz in a statement.

Dolfield Boulevard has been part of the County's Master Plan since the 1980's when the need to link Reisterstown Road to the heart of future development was recognized. In 2008, Baltimore County, through a public-private partnership, built a portion of Dolfield from Red Run Boulevard to Red Run. Two years later, in 2010, the Dolfield Boulevard Bridge was completed. And today the northern phase of Dolfield Boulevard, terminating at Reisterstown Road, was opened to traffic. 

The three projects providing much needed traffic infrastructure for the Owings Mills business and residential community cost a total of $16 million and are 1.5 miles long.
