Flash Flood Watch Issued For 13 Maryland Counties Plus Baltimore

MARYLAND — A flash flood watch is in effect Thursday afternoon and evening for parts of Maryland.

During a flash flood watch, conditions may develop leading to flash flooding.

Slow-moving thunderstorms may cause flash flooding in Maryland Thursday, according to forecasters. Officials say the precipitation accompanies a cold front.

In a three to six-hour period, forecasters advise storms may drop 2 to 4 inches of rain, leading to flash flooding, which is a rapid rise in water level that can be life-threatening. Streams, creeks, and urban areas are particularly prone to flash flooding, officials say.

The flash flood watch is in effect from noon to midnight, according to the National Weather Service.

These Maryland jurisdictions are under the flash flood watch:

• Anne Arundel County
• Baltimore City
• Baltimore County
• Calvert County
• Charles County
• Carroll County
• Frederick County
• Garrett County
• Howard County
• Montgomery County
• Prince George's County
• St. Mary's County
• Washington County

Forecasters say the watch area may need to be expanded if the flood threat shifts.

Isolated instances of flooding are also possible Friday, according to a hazardous weather outlook from the weather service.

Temperatures on Friday will be in the low 70s before climbing into the 80s for the weekend.
