Honey House Opens in Metro Centre at Owings Mills

Retail showroom/lab space features all natural 'Bee Inspired' food, home and body products.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Metro Centre at Owings Mills has gotten sweeter with the opening of Honey House, which is dedicated to showing consumers the potential of “honey in every room in the house.”

Honey House serves as the production facility, fulfillment center and retail showroom of Waxing Kara: a 24/7 e-Commerce site featuring a premium line of food, home and body products called, “Bee Inspired® Goods”– now sold in over 235 stores across the United States, including Anthropologie and Uncommon Goods.
Founded in 2012 by local artist, entrepreneur and beekeeper, Kara Brook, Waxing Kara® has been featured in print and online magazines such as Food & Wine, Southern Living, Country Living, Cooking Light, Lonny, Garden & Gun, Martha Stewart Living and Refinery 29.

Setting the tone is the dramatic storefront featuring a beekeeping narrative on glass with a story that changes with the seasons. Its design combines the vision and talents of Brook and fellow Maryland Institute College of Art graduate, artist Annie Howe (founder of bmorepapercuts.com).
Upon entering Honey House, customers will find an array of items made with honey, beeswax, lavender from Brook’s Eastern Shore farm, as well as other ingredients made possible by bees.

The showroom also offers plenty of options for Honey Gifts, including corporate gifts which can feature customized logos. Its DIY Gift Bar offers the opportunity to create custom gifts from $25 to $200. Customers simply select a container (i.e. canvas bag, tote or wooden box), fill it with a small, medium or large portion of their favorite products, and have the packages wrapped and ready to go at no extra charge.
Valentine’s-themed gift options include Haute Cocoa Scrub, Haute Cocoa Body Butter, Haute Cocoa Rejuvenating Mask, two Cocoa-Dipped Honey Lollipops, with either Sweet Lips Red Trio for her or Sweet Lips Honey Lip Balm for him.

In addition to Honey House’s state-of-the-art and GMP compliant lab area for formulating honey, there’s a sink area in the retail area so customers can rinse after sampling products and tasting honey. Adding to the fun, groups of 10 or more can book Bee Inspired® events featuring facility tours, product sampling, tastings and lessons on how bees help the ecosystem.

For added convenience, “busy bees” and customers on the go can take advantage of curbside service by ordering on the Honey House website, selecting local pickup at check-out, and calling en route to the showroom where their purchases will be ready upon arrival.

A portion of all profits from Honey House are donated to VisionWorkshops, a worldwide non-profit organization focused on teaching at-risk youth the art of photojournalism, often with National Geographic photographers as teachers. For the past decade, Brook has served on the Vision Workshops board and raised/given in excess of $150,000 for programs in the DelMarVa community.

Honey House is open daily, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 10209 Grand Central Ave., Ste. 118, Owings Mills, 21117.
