REISTERSTOWN, MD — A Reisterstown restaurateur will be opening up shop on Main Street. Maria's will feature Mediterranean cuisine.

Owner Elias Rizakos was granted approval for the transfer of the liquor license for the property he developed from 31 to 37 Main Street. At first, he had obtained the license as the developer. Now he will be able to operate a business on the property and sell beer, wine and liquor.

"When we acquired this real estate as well as the license ... there was a possibility of bringing a tenant," David Mister, the attorney for Rizakos, told the Baltimore County liquor board this week. "He's elected to do it himself."

Rizakos, who lives in Reisterstown, "owns a substantial number of properties," his attorney said. He has been in the restaurant business for 50 years and owns 7 West Bistro in Towson. His wife owns the Hazelwood Inn, and Rizakos started the original Maria's in 1981.

While the menu is still in the works, Rizakos said it will likely be a mixture of Greek, American and Italian food.
