Owings Mills Elementary Fifth Grader to Compete in National All-American Miss Pageant

Amari Janey Jones, a fifth grader at Owings Mills Elementary School, placed fourth Runner-up in the Jr. Pre-Teen division of the 2013 National Miss Maryland Pageant and will go on to compete in the national pageant in November. 

The daughter of Andre and Keshia Jones, Amari was one of 135 girls competing in her division of the 2013 National American Miss Maryland pageant. As a first-time pageant contestant, Amari said she was proud to earn the title of fourth Runner-up.  

“I wasn’t expecting much, I just wanted to have fun," Amari said in an email to Patch.

During the week of Thanksgiving, Amari will travel to Anaheim, California to compete against other state contestants from across the country for the National All American Miss Title. The competition will include interviews, personal introductions, formal wear and community service, according to a her father, Andre Jones. 

“I want to represent other girls from across Maryland who are just like me and show them that you don’t have to be perfect in order to be successful,” Amari said.

When she is not competing, Amari is an active and engaged elementary student. Her favorite subjects are reading, art and gym and she said she loves going to church, horseback riding, baking sweet treats with her dad, hanging with her mom and playing with her friends. 

Amari said that when she grows up, she wants to become a doctor and open her own bakery.
