Owings Mills Students Design, Paint Mural on Reisterstown Road
Designed by students, the colorful mural should be finished in mid-November.
Owings Mills High School art students are taking their skills into the community as they paint a mural on a wall next to Jiffy Lube, 10602 Reisterstown Rd. in Owings Mills.
Art teacher Mary Beth Dickman was working on the mural with a dozen students after school Tuesday. She said the school welcomed the opportunity to paint the wall.
According to Dickman, the owner of Jiffy Lube asked the school to paint a mural on the wall. They agreed to do the project and held a school-wide design contest.
Two designs were chosen and elements of each were combined to create the final design for the wall -- which includes the Baltimore Ravens, the Baltimore Oriole's, the original mill that Owings Mills was named after, and Owings Mills High School among other things.
"This is a great way to promote the school and do something for the community at the same time," Dickman said.
Senior Madison Rosner, president of the National Art Honor Society at Owings Mills High School, said she is having fun working on the mural with her friends.
"When I drive by after I graduate, I'll remember being here painting this with my friends," Rosner said.
The goal, according to Dickman, is to have the project finished by mid-November.
