Owings Mills Man Takes First in Baltimore Marathon
The Garrison Forest School teacher finished almost nine minutes in front of the second place runner.
David Berdan of Owings Mills won the Baltimore Running Festival's marathon with a time of 2:30.05 Saturday morning.
A science teacher and cross country coach at Garrison Forest School, Berdan was the first Marylander to win the race in its 13-year history, according to WBAL. More than 27,000 runners participated in the race, according to WBAL.
In 2011, Berdan led the Baltimore Running Festival for the first 11 miles, and placed 10th that year, the best-ever finish at the time by a Marylander, according to the Garrison Forest School website. He did not run last year due to an injury.
Berdan isn't slowing down. Next Sunday he will run in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k in Hunt Valley, a race he has won the past four years, according to Garrison Forest School. Earlier this year, he won the Pocono Marathon in Pennsylvania.
A Pittsburgh, Pa. woman, Elizabeth Perry, won the women's race.
