Owings Mills Resident Makes it to Final 10 in Miss America Pageant

She wasn't crowned Miss America, but Christina Denny of Owings Mills put on quite a show to make it to the top 10 in Sunday night's Miss America Pageant hosted in Atlantic City. 

Denny, 22, was crowned Miss Maryland earlier this summer. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland and was a teacher at Echelon Academy in Sandy Spring, Md. According to a Gazette article, Denny did not return to teach at the school this year so she could focus on her Miss Maryland obligations. 

According to the Miss America Website, Denny's platform issue for the Miss American Pageant was Special Deeds for Special Needs and her talent was singing. 

She intends to get a degree in Speech-Language Pathology and eventually open a preschool for children with developmental delays, according to www.missamerica.com. 

According to USA Today, Denny introduced herself at the pageant with, "From the home of the reigning Super Bowl champions, you bet I'm wacko for Flacco. I'm Christina Denny, Miss Maryland."

Miss New York, Nina Cavuluri, the first Miss America of Indian descent, was crowned Miss America over 52 other contestants. 

After six years in Las Vegas, the pageant returned to Atlantic City this year.
