Owings Mills Woman Recognized at National Women of Color STEM Conference

Pamela Jones, a Software Development Analyst for Northrop Grumman, received special recognition at the 18th Annual Women of Color Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Conference in Dallas, Texas.

Jones, an Owings Mills resident, has twice gone before members of Congress to promote the need for greater emphasis on and funding for initiatives that promote women and minorities in STEM and was invited to help write a congressional bill that would mandate STEM-related curriculum for all K-12 schools, according to a news release.

Jones’s other community efforts include working with inner city school children through the Discover-E STEM program and the implementation of the Computer Lab at the Robinwood Community Center to teach children computer skills through a partnership with Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems African American Task Group.

The Women of Color STEM conference is a multicultural event for women in scientific and technical careers. The 2013 conference took place Oct. 17-19 Dallas, Texas.

Tyrone D. Taborn, CEO of Career Communications Group, calls the awards long-deserved recognition for talented women. "These women are outstanding achievers in very competitive fields where women do not always get a fair shot at leadership positions," he said in a statement.
