Owings Mills Wrestling Coach Guy Pritzker Honored

Pritzker coached wrestling at Owings Mills for 30 years.

Former Owings Mills High School wrestling coach Guy Pritzker was honored Tuesday evening for the impact he's had on young wrestlers in his 40-year coaching career.

At Tuesday evening's wrestling meet at Owings Mills High School, several former wrestlers and the current coaching staff shared Pritzker's coaching accomplishments and the impact he's had on athletes spanning his four decades of coaching. He was presented with a plaque.

Pritzker retired as the Owings Mills head wrestling coach, although he said he continues to volunteer with the program.

After graduating from Towson State, Pritzker coached wrestling at Randallstown High School while also taking over as the junior league coach full-time. In 1983 Pritzker took on a teaching position and the head wrestling coach position at Owings Mills High School.

Pritzker coached at the Junior League level for more than 40 years and at Owings Mills high school for 30 years.

During his time as head coach, Pritzker has won 20 Maryland Junior Wrestling League titles and three Junior League state titles. At Owings Mills he has won 13 Baltimore County championships, 19 regional championships, 17 dual meet regional titles and 11 state championships.

He has coached 28 individual state champions at Owings Mills and over 60 wrestlers through Junior League and high school have gone on to win state titles in Maryland. He has had two three-time Maryland state champions at Owings Mills as well as the only four-time undefeated state champion in Maryland history.

Pritzker was inducted into the Baltimore County Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Maryland State Hall of Fame in 2005.

"I didn't know they were going to do all this, I didn't want all this fanfare," Pritzker said. "But it's really nice, it's a real honor."
