Part Of Baltimore County Under Winter Weather Advisory

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, including part of Baltimore County. Snow and ice could make the Monday morning commute slippery and dangerous, the advisory states.

About 1 to 3 inches of snow and up to 0.1 inch ice may accumulate during the advisory period, which is from midnight to 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec 16.

The winter weather advisory applies to northern Baltimore County, northwest Harford County and all of Carroll, Frederick and Washington counties.

When walking outside, people should watch their first steps on sidewalks, driveways and stairs, which may be icy and slippery, the advisory says.

State highway crews were out Sunday treating roads with anti-icing solution, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation, which encouraged people to delay their travels if possible Monday morning. Drivers should slow down, give themselves extra time and use extreme caution on ramps, bridges, overpasses and other elevated surfaces that tend to freeze first, transportation officials said.

Here is the time table for the wintry mix, according to the winter weather advisory:

• Midnight to 3 a.m.: Snow will overspread the area.
• Morning: Snow changes to sleet and freezing rain.
• Afternoon: Precipitation changes to rain.

Harford County Public Schools and Cecil County Public Schools both announced weather delays Sunday night in anticipation of the wintry weather.
