Police Identify Boy Struck By Train and Investigate Reports of a Man Brandishing a gun and an Enviromental Group Grades State Legislators

1. Baltimore County Police have identified a 10-year-old boy who was struck by an Amtrak train on Sunday. The boy, who suffered serious injuries, is expected to recover. The child’s father took his son to MedStar Franklin Square Hospital where doctors were initially told that he was injured after falling off playground equipment. A 33-year-old man was killed in Lansdowne Saturday when he was pulled under a CSX train. Police believe the man jumped or fell off the freight train.

2. Baltimore County Police continue to investigate two incidents in the Perry Hall and Dunfield areas in which a man reportedly pointed a gun at motorists on July 14. Investigators with the White Marsh and Parkville precincts say similarities in the cases lead them to believe the two are related.

3. Even state legislators get report cards. A scoring of the 2013 Maryland General Assembly session by the League for Conservation Voters found that Democrats overall did better than Republicans on environmental issues in the 2013 Maryland General Assembly session. Four legislators who represent Baltimore County received perfect scores.

4. Baltimore City residents looking to cool off this week can take advantage of 11 cooling centers. The city Health Department announced the centers would open after declaring code red heat days for July 16 – July 19. Free water will also be available at the centers.

5. Area residents continue to gather to protest the Florida jury verdict Saturday that acquitted George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
