Reisterstown Estate Of Cal Ripken Jr. Heads To Auction
The Orioles Hall of Famer has put his home — complete with baseball diamond, batting cage and gym — up for auction.
REISTERSTOWN, MD — The home of retired Baltimore Oriole Cal Ripken Jr. is going up for auction in May. This weekend the open houses begin for potential buyers interested in the multi-million-dollar property.
The baseball-themed estate at 13301 Dover Road in Reisterstown was listed for $12.5 million in 2016 but didn't sell. The following year, Ripken dropped the price to $9.75 million but still had no takers.
Now luxury real estate auctioneer DeCaro Auctions will handle the sale of the property, which hits the auction block on May 12 in a no-reserve auction, according to realtor.com.

The Hall of Famer had the house equipped with a training room containing the same ice machine used at Camden Yards for icing athletes and a tub from the old Memorial Stadium, The Washington Post reported.

Ripken played shortstop and third base for the Orioles from 1981 to 2001 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 in his first year of eligibility. He was one of just eight MLB players to record at least 3,000 hits and 400 home runs and became known as the "Iron Man." Since retiring from the league, he has focused his energy on Ripken Baseball Inc. and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation.
While playing for the Orioles in 1984, Ripken purchased the 24.38 acres in Reisterstown where the custom estate was built. There is room to house a family or a Little League team, with six bedrooms and 15 bathrooms (10 full and five half-baths).
Ripken and his former wife have two adult children who grew up there. The couple divorced in 2016, which is the yar he put the property on the market.
Ripken reportedly maintained the sweeping estate himself on a ride-on mower. "I always liked living out in the country," Ripken, who grew up in Harford County, told The Washington Post.
These days, he is living in Annapolis, where he rents.
