Reisterstown Main Street: The Place to Be on Small Business Saturday

Support local business and help stock a local food pantry at the same time.

Small Business Saturday kicks off the holiday season by encouraging folks to shop at locally owned small businesses. Reisterstown's Main Street offers speciality shops and businesses that are sure to help you cross the names off your holiday shopping list.

This year, Reisterstown's Main Street offers not only shopping, but business owners also intend to use Small Business Saturday to help stock a local food pantry.

Themed “Holiday Cheer Starts Here!”, Reisterstown's small businesses will kick off the holiday season by offering discounts to those who bring a canned good to donate. This allows consumers to not only shop locally but also give locally.

On Small Business Saturday, participating merchants are offering a 10 percent discount to customers who bring in a canned good donation for the Reisterstown United Methodist Church Food Pantry. When you shop at these small businesses, the money you spend here stays here, and the donations you give stay here, too.

"Shopping small is a way to support business owners who live in the community and small businesses can offer one perk that most large stores can’t – personal service," Reisterstown Improvement Association President Glenn Barnes.

"It helps our local economy to shop locally because those dollars get recycled back into the community," Barnes said.

“We want Small Business Saturday to be a weekly event,  not a once a year activity," Barnes said.

Baltimore County Department of Planning's Amy Mantay is currently the Acting Main Street Manager for Reisterstown.

Mantay said she is excited to have Reisterstown businesses participating in Small Business Saturday.

"These businesses are the backbone of Main Street; their success strengthens the community around them," Mantay said. "I've been very excited to see such wonderful community support for the businesses and continuous enthusiasm from business owners to participate in efforts to bring energy back to Main Street."
