Reisterstown McDonald’s Getting $2.5M Makeover

The Reisterstown McDonald’s will get a complete facelift in the coming months.

The restaurant, located on Reisterstown Road next to Frankiln High School, will be demolished and rebuilt with the fast food chain’s new design.

“The new restaurants have a more modern design,” said attorney Caroline Hecker. She and McDonald’s officials presented the new design at a meeting of the Reisterstown-Owings Mills-Glyndon Coordinating Council Monday night.

More than $2.5 million will be invested in the project, said Lee May, an area construction manager for McDonald’s. About a dozen other McDonald’s restaurants in Baltimore County, including the one in Owings Mills New Town, have been redesigned in a similar style.

Two of the most notable features in the new design include two drive-thru order lanes and two entrance/exit lanes rather than one, Hecker said.

The restaurant will also slightly increase its footprint, increasing its size from 3,600 square feet on the main floor to 4,100. The current restaurant has a basement, which the new building will not have, Hecker said.

Parking spaces will reduced from 33 to 29, but a parking study showed that even at peak hours, 25 spaces were in use.

“This does not meet the image we want to have now,” May said. “We just want to make it more efficient.”

That includes installing energy efficient LED lighting, he added.

The restaurant has applied for permits, and expects to begin demolition in the coming months. It will take about four months from demolition to reopening, May said.
