Snow Prompts 2 Weather Alerts In Baltimore County

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County is under a winter storm warning in the north and winter weather advisory in the south Thursday, Feb. 11. Both are effective until 10 a.m.

Baltimore County had 2 inches of snow reported in Cockeysville as of 1:25 a.m., based on unofficial measurements provided to the National Weather Service.

Northern Baltimore, Harford and Cecil counties are under a winter storm warning until 10 a.m. Heavy snow is expected to total 3 to 6 inches during the warning period. During a winter storm warning, travel can be difficult to impossible.

Southern Baltimore and Howard counties are under a winter weather advisory calling for accumulations up to 2 inches of snow between 3:30 and 10 a.m. During a winter weather advisory period, travel can be hazardous, and people should exercise caution.

Due to weather, some delayed openings have been reported in Baltimore County Thursday.

The National Weather Service reports it issues a winter storm warning if the forecast calls for heavy snow of at least 6 inches in 12 hours; at least 8 inches of snow in 24 hours; or at least 0.5 inch sleet.

It issues a winter weather advisory if the forecast calls for 3 to 5 inches of snow in 12 hours; up to 0.25 inch sleet; freezing rain plus sleet and/or snow; or blowing snow.
