Student Charged In Owings Mills High School Assault: Report

OWINGS MILLS, MD — A student has reportedly been charged after a violent episode at Owings Mills High School. He will also face disciplinary action through Baltimore County Public Schools.

Five staff members were assaulted, including one the student tried to punch in the face, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Owings Mills High School sent a letter to families Thursday that said the student will be disciplined in accordance with the school system's student handbook, the newspaper reported.

A physical attack on a staff member is considered one of the most serious types of offenses and is grounds for possible suspension or recommendation to the superintendent for extended suspension, expulsion or placement in an alternative program, according to Baltimore County Public Schools policies.

The letter to Owings Mills High School families reportedly said the students were not in danger.

Fox 45, which broke the story Thursday, shared video of the confrontation at the high school, which was also posted to Instagram. It transpired inside the school on South Tollgate Road as students and staff were in the hallways. (Editor's note: There is profanity, and the content may be disturbing to some viewers.)

The 17-year-old student, who was swearing at the staff throughout the incident, which occurred after 11 a.m. Thursday, is being charged as a juvenile, according to WBAL.
